Palghar police arrest two-wheeler theft accused within 24 hours, recover scooter

The Palghar police in Maharashtra arrested a 36-year-old man within 24 hours after a complaint of two-wheeler theft was registered and recovered the stolen scooter from the accused's possession, the police said in a press note on Saturday.

According to the press note, the complainant, identified as 23-year-old Mukesh Dhaku Nadge, a farmer from Dadra and Nagar Haveli, reported that his green-and-white Suzuki scooter had been stolen.

The two-wheeler was parked in the parking area outside the State Bank in Talasari when an unidentified person allegedly took it away.

A case was registered at Talasari Police Station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, in connection with the theft.

After registering the case, a team was formed at Talasari Police Station to trace the two-wheeler. Based on technical analysis and confidential information, the police identified the accused as 36-year-old Ajay Manohar Mayavanshi, a resident of Nargol, Mayavanshi Faliya, in Umargam taluka, Valsad district, Gujarat.

The police took Mayavanshi into custody and probed further. The investigation established that he had committed the offence, following which he was arrested, the police press note stated.

The stolen scooter was recovered from his possession.

The accused was produced before a court, which granted him one day of police custody on Saturday. Further investigation is being conducted by Police Naik Sachin Awhad from Talasari Police Station.

The action was carried out under the guidance of Palghar Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh, Additional Superintendent of Police Vinayak Narale, Dahanu Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nisha Jadhav and Talasari Police Station In-charge Ajay Gorad.

Police Sub-Inspector Vikas Dargude, Assistant Sub-Inspector Hiraman Khotre and Police Havaldar Anil Sonawane, attached to Talasari Police Station, were part of the team that carried out the operation.

Burglar steals valuables worth Rs 8.97 lakh from teacher's house in Thane district

An unidentified burglar broke into the house of a school teacher in Maharashtra's Thane district and fled with gold jewellery and cash worth Rs 8.97 lakh, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on the night of Tuesday, September 29, in Dombivli when the complainant, Yogesh Ramesh Ghare, had gone out with his family to a local restaurant to celebrate his son's birthday, an official told news agency PTI.

According to the official, the intruder cut open the iron grill of the bedroom window to gain entry into the house. The burglar then ransacked four cupboards, took the gold ornaments and cash, and fled.

A case of house break-in and theft has been registered, and further investigation is underway, the official said.
