The Kasturba Marg Police in Borivali East, Mumbai, have recovered 100 mobile phones reported stolen or lost by analysing information available through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal and conducting technical investigations.
According to a press note issued on Saturday, complaints regarding stolen and lost mobile phones within the jurisdiction of the Kasturba Marg Police Station were analysed using information available on the CEIR portal. The police traced the mobile phones using their details, International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers and information about the people using the devices.
Based on the technical investigation, police personnel from Kasturba Marg Police Station conducted searches in Mumbai and various parts of Maharashtra as well as other states, leading to the recovery of 100 mobile phones.
The recovered phones have an estimated combined value of Rs 22,70,658. Of the 100 recovered devices, 18 have already been returned to the complainants or owners.
The owners who have received their phones back include Rajendra Puri, Khush Saw, Krupa Lodhiya, Shreya Satam, Atul Sasane, Priyanka Mistry, Binu Tamang, Prem Gupta, Azhia Sheikh, Shweta Shah, Sandhya Pandit, Deepak Satavekar, Saurabh Jangid, Ketan Shete, Omkar Raut, Jiyalal Yadav, Lakshmappa Krupagiri and Pravin Dubey.
The process of returning the remaining recovered mobile phones to their respective owners is underway, police said.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Region 3, Gajanan Rajmane; Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dahisar Division, Jayraj Ranaware; and Senior Police Inspector, Kasturba Marg Police Station, Balasaheb Bankar.
Police Sub-Inspector Mayur Patil, who handles the CEIR portal, along with Maharashtra Police personnel Kajal Chougule, Ahire and Bobade, carried out the technical investigation using their expertise, according to the press note.
Mumbai Police arrest two for mobile snatching in Santacruz, recover phone
The Vakola Police in Mumbai have arrested two youths in connection with the alleged snatching of a mobile phone from a 52-year-old man in Santacruz East and recovered the stolen device within hours of the incident, police said.
The incident took place on September 20 when the victim, identified as Hiren Narendra Naik, was walking along the pavement outside a Ganpati temple in Anand Nagar area of Santacruz East, after offering prayers.
According to the police, two unidentified persons allegedly approached Naik and snatched his mobile phone from his shirt pocket before fleeing the spot.
Naik subsequently approached Vakola Police Station and lodged a complaint.
Following the complaint, a police team led by PSI Sushantkumar Patil and PSI Amte began investigating the case.
The team examined CCTV footage from the area and allegedly identified two suspects fleeing from the spot with the victim's phone.
The images were circulated among local informants, following which the police received information about the suspects' whereabouts.
Acting on the information, police conducted a raid near Mahakali Temple in Santacruz East, and detained two youths.
They were later placed under arrest.
The accused have been identified as Nishant Sharma, 20, and Yashvardhan Boma, 21, both residents of Santacruz East, said a police official.
During questioning, police recovered the stolen black smartphone from the accused, officials said.
The Vakola Police have registered a case under Sections 304 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The investigation was conducted under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Navnath Ghuge. PSI Sushantkumar Patil and PSI Amte were part of the investigation, while police constable Sagar Gaikwad provided technical assistance.
The police said the stolen property was recovered following the swift investigation.
