Mike Flanagan’s supernatural horror series Carrie is officially returning for a second season, with Prime Video confirming the renewal just two weeks after the first instalment premiered globally on October 7, 2026. The eight-episode season reimagines Stephen King’s iconic debut novel, taking the story of the troubled teenager into the social media age.
Carrie season 2 to continue after the finale
Flanagan will return as showrunner, writer and executive producer, continuing his collaboration with King, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Trevor Macy. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios. Announcing the renewal on Instagram, Prime Video wrote, “Her story is far from finished. Carrie is returning for Season 2 on Prime.”

The first season stars Summer H Howell as Carrie White, a high-school misfit raised in isolation by her fiercely protective and religious mother, Margaret, played by Samantha Sloyan. Carrie’s life takes a dramatic turn after her father’s sudden death forces her to navigate the unforgiving world of public high school.
The series updates King's 1974 novel for a contemporary audience, exploring online bullying, social media-fuelled humiliation and the cruelty of teenage social dynamics. As Carrie struggles to fit in, she also begins experiencing the terrifying emergence of her telekinetic abilities.
One of the season’s most significant departures from the source material comes in its finale. Unlike the original novel’s tragic conclusion, the series allows Carrie to survive the bloody ordeal. The final moments show her leaving town in the passenger seat of her friend Emaline’s car, played by Thalia Dudek, with her destination unknown.
What to expect from Mike Flanagan’s Carrie
While details about the second season’s plot remain under wraps, Carrie’s survival offers the series an opportunity to explore the aftermath of the violence and the consequences of her emerging powers. The renewal also gives Mike Flanagan scope to expand his modern interpretation of King’s much-adapted horror story.
With Flanagan returning at the helm and King continuing as executive producer, the second season will build on the series’ contemporary take on adolescence, bullying and supernatural horror.
All eight episodes of Carrie season 1 are currently streaming on Prime Video. The makers have not yet announced a release date or further casting details for the upcoming season.
