A 38-year-old man arrested for allegedly stealing electrical wires from the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) premises died in police custody early Thursday morning after suffering a medical emergency inside the NRI Coastal police station lock-up.

Yadav underwent a medical examination at Panvel Rural Hospital before his arrest and reported no health complaints then or during subsequent court appearances. The court initially remanded him in police custody until October 6, later extending it to October 8.

‘While Yadav was lodged in the NRI Coastal police station lock-up, a guard noticed him clenching his fists, with his hands and legs becoming abnormally bent. He was immediately taken to Meenatai Thackeray Hospital, Nerul, where he was admitted at 12.50 am. Despite treatment, he was declared dead at 1.36 am.’
