An unexpected spell of rain swept across Mumbai on Tuesday evening, bringing relief to many residents after a humid day but also causing waterlogging and traffic disruptions in parts of the city. The Andheri Subway was waterlogged by around 7.30 pm, while a stretch of Aarey Milk Colony Road was shut after multiple incidents of trees and branches falling on the road. Traffic was also affected on the Western Express Highway between Goregaon and Jogeshwari.
Aarey road shut
The arterial Aarey Milk Colony Road connecting Birsa Munda Chowk and Aarey Market was closed following multiple tree and branch falls.
“More than 10 incidents of trees and tree branches collapsing have taken place in Aarey Milk Colony at several places, impacting traffic movement,” said Imran Udat, an Aarey resident.
Mumbaikars welcome the rain
The sudden showers also drew a different response online, with several Mumbaikars expressing relief from the humidity, with one saying, “Sudden
rains have provided a heavenly relief from humidity. No words to express the joy.”
What was the forecast?
The IMD’s Mumbai forecast issued on Tuesday morning had indicated partly cloudy conditions, with the possibility of one or two spells of very light rain or thundershowers in the city and suburbs.
Temperatures were expected to remain around 32°C during the day and 26°C at night. No Orange or Red alerts have been issued for Mumbai in the coming five days.
