A family feud that had festered for nearly a year ended in tragedy in the early hours of Thursday when two brothers allegedly stabbed their elder sibling and his teenage son to death inside their home in the slum area of Rahul Nagar in Vikhroli West for playing loud music at night.
Sunil Vishwakarma, 40, and his son, Shlok, 14, sustained grievous knife injuries and were declared dead during treatment at Rajawadi hospital. Sunil’s wife, Anju, and younger son, Vivaan, also suffered stab injuries and are undergoing treatment.

The Parksite police have arrested Sunil’s brothers, Surendra and Suraj Vishwakarma, on charges of murder and attempt to murder. Abhaysingh Deshmukh, deputy commissioner of police, East Zone III, said, “The family members had been having frequent minor disputes over the past year.”
Investigators said the arguments largely revolved around household expenses, including electricity and other utility bills, medical expenses, and financial responsibilities. The strained relationship had also led to frequent quarrels between the brothers’ wives, widening the rift between the two families.

Police said the family’s elderly mother had eventually left the house after becoming exhausted by the constant quarrels, and the brothers would often blame each other for her leaving.
“Sunil would also play old Bollywood songs daily at night on his phone, which irked other family members. They would tell him to stop playing the songs as it was disturbing them, but he would only increase the volume to bother them. It was a daily occurrence in the house,” an official said.
The trigger for Thursday’s attack was an argument over loud music allegedly being played by Sunil on his mobile phone after midnight while other family members were trying to sleep. Police said he had allegedly developed a habit of playing music late at night, which had become another source of friction within the household
The crime scene has been examined by forensic experts. Police said they are reconstructing the sequence of events and verifying all circumstances leading to the killings.
