A Birthday celebration in Borivli West has landed 10 people, including the birthday boy, in legal trouble after a video purportedly showing celebratory firing on a public road went viral on social media. Taking suo motu cognisance of the viral clip, Borivli police registered an FIR.
Road celebration
Police said the incident took place on August 4 near Gharkul Co-operative Housing Society in Gorai-2, where Akash Ramkripal Gupta organised a birthday celebration on a road outside the society.

Investigators alleged Gupta and his friends formed an unlawful gathering. The group allegedly shouted, created a public nuisance and parked an Innova SUV in the middle of the road, obstructing traffic while the birthday cake was cut on the vehicle’s bonnet.
Airgun panic
Police said accused Jatin Naveen Sharma allegedly brought an airgun fitted with a sound-emitting device and flashlight to the celebration. Another accused, Vijayesh Vijayprakash Upadhyay, allegedly used the airgun recklessly, creating loud noises that caused panic among residents and endangered public safety. The video later surfaced on social media, leading to police action.
Case registered
An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police are also initiating action under Sections 201, 122 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, Sections 37(1)(e) and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, and Section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act. “We have detained all the accused. The investigation is underway,” said Senior Inspector Pushpalata Mandale, Borivli police station.
