Maharashtra Housing Board (MHB) Colony police arrested 36-year-old Medical Representative Sanjay Omprakash Dubey from Mira Road (East) for allegedly stealing a 58-year-old patient's gold chain from a crowded Dahisar clinic.
Brief lapse
On August 7, a Borivli resident brought his mother, Saroj, who suffers from diabetes and a related skin condition, to the clinic on LM Road, Nawagaon, Dahisar West, for treatment. Around 11.40 am, the doctor asked her to remove her gold chain for a neck examination.
Due to the heavy rush, Saroj temporarily placed the chain on top of the slipper stand and bent down to unzip her handbag. The chain vanished within seconds. The stolen antique gold chain with two pendants weighed 19 grams, valued between Rs 2.3 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh.
CCTV probe
After a failed search, the victim’s family approached the MHB police station. Under the direction of senior officers, a detection team reviewed CCTV footage and questioned suspects present during the crime. Suspicion fell on Dubey, who was spotted in the lobby.
Accused nabbed
Police tracked down Dubey to Kashimira Road, Mira Road East, and detained him. An officer told mid-day, “During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, and we recovered the stolen property from him. Further legal procedures are underway to determine whether he is linked to other offences.”
