It was a no-brainer for Vaibhav Tatwawadi to join Amazon MX Player’s Made in India: The Titan Story. But as he began preparing to play Akash Bansal, the co-founder of Titan, he realised the responsibility that came with portraying a real-life figure. “Since these characters are greater than life, my challenge was to ensure I don’t approach it like that because while they are great today, at that time they were like us — people with dreams, ambition, dedication, and patience,” he said.
Beyond the script, Tatwawadi spoke to Titan employees to better understand the man he was portraying. “I was told he was sharp with numbers and that no one could cheat him. That helped a lot,” he recalled. The Robbie Grewal-directed series has proved to be a turning point in the actor’s career, not only for the acclaim it has brought but also for the lessons it has offered. Tatwawadi credits co-star Naseeruddin Shah for sharpening his craft. “After observing Naseer saab, I’ve improved by leaps and bounds as an actor. Great actors have a phenomenal sense of rhythm, Naseer saab is one of them. And I am very intrigued by it.”
