Ali Fazal has a specific approach to choosing his roles; he judges a character in terms of the impact it leaves behind. The actor hopes that his part of a cop investigating a gruesome double murder in the upcoming series, Raakh, will deliver on that count. Stating that this philosophy helps him and his actor-wife Richa Chadha choose the right scripts, Fazal said, “For us, it’s always been about finding roles that stay with the audience. When you look at Bholi Punjaban from Fukrey or Guddu Pandit from Mirzapur, these characters have gone beyond the screen and become a part of pop culture.”
The Prime Video series, inspired by the Ranga-Billa case, stars Sonali Bendre and Aamir Bashir as the parents of the murdered children
Now, as he looks forward to Raakh’s release and sifts through scripts to choose his next, Fazal shared that the goal is clear in his head — to pick roles whose relevance lasts a long time. “We’ve been lucky to [play] characters that people remember, quote, and revisit. The goal is to continue being part of narratives that leave such impact.”
