Man dies, woman hospitalised after falling ill at Mumbai music event

A 35-year-old man died and a woman was hospitalised after both allegedly consumed excessive amounts of alcohol during a music event held in Mumbai`s Worli area in the early hours of Sunday, police officials said.

The incident occurred during the `Klangkuenstler All Night Long` music show organised at the NSCI Dome. Police have launched an investigation and registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) to determine the exact circumstances that led to the man`s death.

Incident Reported During Overnight Music Event

According to officials from the Tardeo police station, the man and the woman were attending the all-night music event and were actively participating in the programme when they reportedly consumed large quantities of alcohol, including cocktails.

During the event, both individuals began experiencing health complications and complained of feeling unwell. Event attendees and organisers alerted emergency services, following which the pair were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Police have not disclosed the identities of the two individuals.

Man Declared Dead During Treatment

Officials said the 35-year-old man was taken to Breach Candy Hospital, where doctors declared him dead while undergoing treatment.

The woman, who was also admitted to hospital after reporting similar symptoms, is currently undergoing treatment and is said to be recovering.

Investigators are awaiting detailed medical reports to establish the precise cause of the man`s death.

Dehydration Suspected, Cause Yet to Be Confirmed

Preliminary findings suggest that dehydration may have been a contributing factor in the incident. However, police emphasised that the exact cause of death can only be determined after further medical examination and investigation.

Officials said post-mortem findings and toxicology reports, if required, will play a key role in establishing whether alcohol consumption alone led to the fatality or whether other factors were involved.

Police are also collecting statements from witnesses and reviewing available evidence from the event.

ADR Registered, Investigation Underway

The Tardeo police have registered an Accidental Death Report and initiated an inquiry into all aspects of the incident.

Investigators are examining the sequence of events leading up to the medical emergency and verifying details related to alcohol consumption at the venue. Authorities are also expected to review compliance with safety protocols and event management guidelines.

Police officials said no conclusions have been drawn at this stage and the investigation remains ongoing.

Concerns Over Safety at Large Entertainment Events

The incident has once again brought attention to safety concerns at large-scale entertainment events in Mumbai.

In April this year, two MBA students who attended a music concert at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon died after allegedly consuming drugs. The case led to a police investigation and the arrest of multiple individuals in connection with the alleged supply and distribution of narcotic substances.

While the circumstances of the latest incident are different and no evidence of drug use has been reported so far, authorities are expected to closely examine all available evidence before determining the cause of death.

Police Await Medical Reports

Officials said the investigation will continue after the receipt of medical and forensic reports. The findings are expected to provide clarity on whether alcohol-related complications, dehydration or any other medical condition contributed to the man`s death.

Meanwhile, police have urged event organisers and attendees to exercise caution regarding alcohol consumption, particularly during long-duration events where dehydration and exhaustion can pose serious health risks.
