Fake political fixer held for Rs 50 lakh MHADA flat scam in Mumbai

A man accused of posing as a politically connected fixer to cheat people of lakhs of rupees by promising MHADA flats, government jobs, and high-return investments has been arrested by the Charkop police. Investigators allege that Kiran Mahadik, alias Bunty, used photographs with politicians and ministers to convince victims that he had access to influential decision-makers and government officials.

The latest case involves a 58-year-old widow of a retired Mumbai Police sub-inspector who alleged that she was cheated of nearly Rs 50 lakh after being promised a MHADA flat through a ministerial quota.

Police said Mahadik allegedly targeted people in Mumbai and Pune using similar promises, including government jobs in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and other departments, as well as investment schemes offering unusually high returns.

Victim’s allegations

According to the complaint, the accused repeatedly assured the family that a flat would be allotted under a ministerial quota. Believing the claims, the family allegedly liquidated savings, sold jewellery and borrowed money from relatives to meet his demands. When possession and documentation were repeatedly delayed, the family allegedly realised they had been cheated and approached the police.
