After discovering the involvement of the NESCO drug case key accused, Mark, in an illegal cricket betting scam, the police have now discovered that he has a twin brother: Nikhil aka Nik. A source revealed that both brothers had earlier spent nearly 90 days in Arthur Road Jail in connection with the betting case, before being released on bail.
Mahesh Khemlani, alias Mark, is alleged to be the kingpin of the drug network that provided ecstasy pills to the two MBA students who died of an overdose during a concert at NESCO on April 11. According to Vanrai Police, his arrest could expose not only a major drug supply chain, but also a suspected cricket betting syndicate in the city.
The NESCO concert where the deaths took place
The police are being cautious with this new development. “We are looking into Nik as well, and if we find that he is somehow connected to the NESCO drug deaths, we will take action,” said an officer.
Mark allegedly possessed passports linked to India and Hong Kong. He maintained multiple relationships, including with a woman identified as Zia Jacob. He frequently travelled between Hong Kong and India, allegedly bringing expensive items like luxury watches for resale.
The police are now probing whether Mark’s operations were limited to Mumbai or extended beyond India. Possible links to Thailand, Bangkok, and Hong Kong are being examined. Investigators are looking into a potential international drug network. An officer from Vanrai police said their primary focus remains on the drug angle, while parallel leads are being explored.
Fresh custody of co-accused sought
“Vanrai police have approached the court seeking renewed custody of previously arrested accused, including Ayush Sahitya, Anand Patel, Vineet Gerelani, and Shubh Agarwal. All are currently in judicial custody, and police want to question them alongside Mark to uncover the full extent of the network,” said an officer.
