1 The woman, 53, went to her village on April 7 after making sure that earrings, pendants, mangalsutra, rings, and anklets worth Rs 3.15 lakh and weighing 40 grams, as well as Rs 40,000 in cash, kept inside an iron box in her Santosh Nagar residence were safe. But, on returning on April 15, she was shocked to find the valuables missing.
2 The woman instantly suspected her son, 21, an alleged drug addict. When confronted, he first denied involvement but later allegedly confessed to stealing the valuables. He assured his mother he would soon return everything. However, when weeks passed without this happening, the heartbroken mother lodged a complaint at the Dindoshi police station.
3 Under the guidance of DCP Mahesh Chimte, Senior Inspector Mahendra Shinde, PSI Ajit Desai and his detection team arrested the youth on May 12 and, later, recovered jewellery weighing 29 grams. According to the cops, the youth had handed over the jewellery to two women living in Gokuldham, with whom he often stayed and allegedly got high. The women, in turn, had sold them to a jeweller in Santosh Nagar. Notices have been issued to the women, directing them to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
