The Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested two men from Borivali railway station for their alleged involvement in a bomb-hurling incident outside an Ashram in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, ANI reported.
Police said the accused had allegedly fled West Bengal and travelled to Mumbai to evade arrest.
Incident linked to post-election tensions
According to Mumbai Crime Branch officials, the incident took place on May 14 under the jurisdiction of Berhampore Police Station in Murshidabad.
Police said tensions had reportedly escalated in the area following the declaration of West Bengal election results, after which the case was registered, ANI reported.
Two accused arrested from Borivali
The arrested accused have been identified as Roky Khan (24), a driver and resident of Kandi Hotel Para, and Sahadat Sarkar (35), a labourer from Gram Natun Pura.
After detaining the duo, Mumbai Crime Branch officials completed legal formalities and secured a two-day transit remand before initiating the process of handing them over to West Bengal Police.
Grocery shop owner filed complaint
According to police officials, the case was lodged on the complaint of grocery shop owner Pashupathinath Saha, a resident of the Majiherpara Post Office area in Murshidabad district, the news agency reported.
In his complaint, he named Ali Hossain alias Laden and Hasan SK, along with three unidentified persons, as key accused in the case. Several accused are still absconding, police said.
Dispute began over posters near temple
Investigators said the dispute allegedly began on May 12 after unidentified persons tore down photographs displayed on an electric pole outside a Ma Durga temple near an Ashram in the Majihipara area.
Police said the situation escalated the following night.
Socket bombs allegedly hurled outside Ashram
According to investigators, on May 13 around 10:45 pm, the accused and their associates allegedly hurled socket bombs in an open field in front of the Ashram.
The explosions reportedly triggered panic among residents and created fear in the locality, police said.
Accused allegedly threatened complainant
Police said the next morning, around 10:30 am on May 14, some of the accused allegedly arrived outside the complainant’s grocery shop on motorcycles.
They allegedly threatened him and warned of more bomb attacks if he informed the police or pursued the matter further.
Accused traced to Mumbai via Gitanjali Express
After the FIR was registered on May 15, investigators launched a search operation and later found that the accused had vacated their residences and fled West Bengal.
Further investigation revealed they had boarded the Gitanjali Express and travelled to Mumbai in an attempt to avoid arrest.
The information was immediately shared with Mumbai Crime Branch officials, who launched a tracking operation and eventually detained both accused near Borivali railway station.
