Man electrocuted, three injured in Naigaon during demolition drive

A 20-year-old man died and three others were injured after an iron banner allegedly came into contact with a high-voltage overhead power line during an anti-encroachment drive in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, police said on Sunday, reported the PTI.

The incident took place on Saturday outside a hotel in Naigaon East along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway.

Police identified the deceased as Abhay Rakesh Tiwari, who worked as a waiter at the hotel.

According to officials, a team from the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) had arrived at the location to remove illegal encroachments. During the operation, civic staff were dismantling a large iron banner installed outside the hotel.

Police said that Tiwari and three others attempted to help move the iron structure when it accidentally touched a live overhead power line.

All four men received electric shock

“All four men received an electric shock and were thrown to the ground,” an official said.

The injured men were immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital. Doctors later declared one of them dead, while the remaining three victims are undergoing treatment, officials said.

Naigaon police have registered an accidental death case and launched an investigation into the incident.

Officials said the probe will also examine whether there were any lapses or negligence during the anti-encroachment drive.

Worker dies of electrocution during Rajinikanth film shoot

Meanwhile, earlier this week, an accident on the sets of superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Jailer 2 claimed the life of a young crew member.

According to reports, a man working on the film died of electrocution at a private studio in Chennai.

On Thursday, news agency PTI reported that the deceased crew member has been identified as Karthikeyan.

As per preliminary police investigations, the 28-year-old suffered a fatal electric shock while working with the art direction department. The team was erecting a house-like set for the shoot of film Jailer 2 when the incident took place.

Reports stated that the Kanathur Police is currently investigating the matter to determine the circumstances that led to the electrical leak and Karthikeyan’s death. The police are yet to register an FIR in the matter.
