In a case highlighting a recurring illegal immigration route, the Kasturba Marg police have arrested a Bangladeshi national who was deported last year but allegedly re-entered India months later with her family.
The accused, Mayana alias Nargis Vilayat Shaikh, was arrested on April 16 from the Daulat Nagar area in Dahisar East. In a striking coincidence, Assistant Police Inspector YD Inamdar of the Anti-Terrorism Cell (ATC), who had arrested and deported her last year, identified her again during the operation.
Family on the run
Police are searching for her husband, Vilayat Shaikh, and their son, Yahiya, who remain absconding.
According to Kasturba Marg police:
>> A special team was formed under the Zone 12 DCP to trace Bangladeshi nationals
>> Samtanagar police had earlier arrested Nargis along with other Bangladeshi nationals
>> Kasturba Marg police arrested her sisters-in-law, Rohima Shaikh, 46, and Bredana Khatoon Shaikh, 55
>> Aarey police arrested
Vilayat and Yahiya on May 3, 2025

“During interrogation, she confirmed that her husband and son are in the city but did not disclose their whereabouts,” an officer said.
Back through a new route
Police said the family returned to India in September 2025 using a different network.
During interrogation, Nargis revealed:

>> They used the Nepal route with the help of an agent based in Navi Mumbai
>> The agent charged Rs 30,000 per person

>> Vilayat and Yahiya worked as labourers
>> Investigators believe they had been in Mumbai for several years before their first arrest
