Two held in Mumbai for supplying fraudulent SIM cards for cybercrime network

The Mumbai Cyber Police have arrested two men for allegedly activating more than 100 SIM cards using fraudulent subscriber details and supplying the duplicate numbers for cyber fraud operations across the country and Southeast Asia.

The accused have been identified as Mohammed Sultan Mohammed Hanif Ansari, a SIM card point-of-sale (POS) agent from Mumbra, and Zeeshan Kamble, a resident of Madanpura in Nagpada.

Between February and December 2024, Ansari allegedly targeted migrants from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Using their Aadhaar details, he allegedly entered false local addresses while registering Airtel SIM cards. When a customer requested one SIM card, Ansari allegedly activated two connections using the same documents. Duplicate SIMs were sold for R500 each, amounting to roughly Rs 90,000 in payments.
