Navi Mumbai: Two natives of Punjab held with Rs 15.36 lakh heroin

Police in Navi Mumbai have seized heroin worth Rs 15.36 lakh from a lodge in the CBD-Belapur area and arrested two men from Punjab, officials said on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off, the anti-narcotics cell raided a room at the lodge on July 5. 

During the operation, they apprehended Pramjitsingh Mahindarsingh (29) from Kapurthala and Sukhvinder Dara Singh (35) from Tarn Taran, reported news agency PTI. 

A total of 38.4 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession, according to officials from the CBD-Belapur police station.

The contraband was concealed in the belongings of the duo, the official said.

Three other persons who were in the room managed to escape, he said, adding that efforts were on to trace them.

"We have registered an FIR under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the accused," the official said, reported news agency PTI.

The police were trying to identify the source of the drug and to whom the accused planned to sell it, he said.

Malvani Police arrests interstate drug smuggler with ganja worth Rs 15 lakh

In a similar case in July, Malvani Police arrested an interstate drug smuggler with 6 kg 398 grams of ganja. The ganja, which has been seized by the police, is said to be valued at Rs 15 lakh.

While addressing the issue, the officials from Malvani Police said, "During a patrol on the night of 3rd July. The accused, identified as Parvez Ahmed Amiruddin Syed (48), a cloth merchant from Bhojpur, Bihar, was caught with the contraband near Mangal Darshan Building, Jankalyan Road, Malvani, Malad (West).”

The operation was carried out under the direction of Police Sub-Inspector Dr. Deepak Hinde and the surveillance team of Beat No. 4, as per the instructions of senior officers. It has been reported that during routine questioning, the suspect confessed to possessing the contraband for illegal sale.

Following the confession, officers initiated legal procedures under the supervision of DCP Anand Bhoite (Zone 11) and Senior Inspector Shailendra Nagarkar.

Furthermore, a case has been registered at Malvani Police Station under Sections 8(a) and 20(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the accused.
