Thane teacher dupes autorickshaw driver of Rs 10.30 lakh over fake govt jobs

Police have registered a case against a teacher at a competitive examination academy in Thane for allegedly cheating an autorickshaw driver of Rs 10.30 lakh by promising government jobs to his children in the Maharashtra Police and the Indian Navy, officials said on Sunday.

Daughter was undergoing police recruitment training

According to the complaint, the 46-year-old victim, who lives in Bhiwandi in Thane district, had enrolled his daughter for pre-recruitment training for police jobs at an academy near Kalyan Railway Station.

The accused, a teacher at the academy, allegedly gained the trust of the complainant and his family while his daughter was undergoing training.

The teacher allegedly claimed that he could help secure a position for the daughter in the Maharashtra Police and an entry-level job for the complainant's son in the Indian Navy, a police official said.

Teacher allegedly took Rs 10.30 lakh

Believing the teacher's assurances, the complainant allegedly paid him a total of Rs 10,30,000, police said.

The money was allegedly given on the assurance that the accused would facilitate the recruitment of both children. However, the promised jobs were not secured, according to the complaint.

The teacher also allegedly failed to return the money despite repeated requests from the complainant, prompting him to approach the police.

Case registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita

Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the accused on October 1.

The accused has been booked under Section 316(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to criminal breach of trust, and Section 318(4), which deals with cheating, the official said.

Police said the accused has not yet been arrested and is currently at large.

Cyber cell handling investigation

The investigation has been handed over to the cyber cell, officials said.

Police are now examining the financial transactions and other details related to the alleged payment of Rs 10.30 lakh. Investigators are also expected to verify the accused's claims about his ability to arrange government employment for the complainant's children.

The case is currently based on the complaint and allegations made against the teacher. Further action will depend on the findings of the investigation, police said.
