The Pydhonie Police in Mumbai have arrested a 36-year-old man who had allegedly been absconding for 12 years in connection with a 2014 burglary case.
The accused, identified as Khwaja Sheikh, was wanted in connection with a case registered at Pydhonie Police Station under sections 454, 380, 342, 411 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Accused allegedly absconding since 2014
According to the police, Sheikh had been absconding for around 12 years. Investigators said they initially faced difficulty tracing him as he was living in a densely populated slum area and there was little information available about him apart from his name.
The police team continued to work on the case and gathered information through confidential sources.
Police trace accused to Trombay
Following further investigation and information received from confidential sources, the Pydhonie Police team traced the suspect to Trombay in Mumbai.
The police subsequently arrested him in connection with the 2014 case.
Senior officers supervised operation
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Manojkumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Police Shailesh Balkawade, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ragsudha R, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Renuka Buwa.
The team was led by Pydhonie Senior Police Inspector Laxmikant Salunkhe, with Police Sub-Inspectors R Patil and Tushar Ikke, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Shendge and Rane, and Police Head Constable Kanade.
Police said the arrest was made following sustained efforts to trace the accused, who had remained untraced for several years.
