Samta Nagar police have arrested a domestic cook who allegedly stole cash, gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 71.45 lakh from a residence in Kandivli West and fled. The police recovered the valuables from Madhubani in Bihar and Vapi in Gujarat.
Missing valuables
According to the police, the case came to light after Payal Prabhat Tiwari, 48, lodged a complaint alleging that Chaudhary had stolen cash and jewellery from a cupboard at her residence in Fountain Heights, Lokhandwala Township, Kandivli West.

He was arrested in Madhubani following a technical investigation
Sudden exit
On October 3, at around 8.30 pm, Chaudhary allegedly told Tiwari that he had found another job. Suspecting something was amiss, Tiwari checked the cash and jewellery kept in a wooden cupboard and discovered that the valuables were missing. When she went outside to look for him, he was no longer there.
Big losses
The initial police complaint reported a loss of Rs 42 lakh, including Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and Rs 39.5 lakh in jewellery. Following a thorough follow-up inspection, Tiwari found even more jewellery missing.
Technical leads
Under the guidance of DCP Zone 3, North Region, Gajanan Rajmane, and Senior Inspector Jaiwant Shinde, the Samta Nagar police registered a case under BNS. The successful crackdown team included police personnel Kini, Nijai, Jadhav, Shermale, Sawant, and Shinde.
