A knife-wielding man, identified as Rizwan Qureshi, 29, from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, allegedly killed a teenager and injured another person during a series of attacks in Malad’s Malwani early Friday. The Malwani police arrested Qureshi shortly after the attacks.
First attack
The violence began around 2 am at New Collector Compound. Qureshi allegedly knocked on a house door and asked for water. When the 15-year-old boy brought it, he allegedly slashed the teenager’s neck with a sharp weapon before fleeing. The victim was rushed to Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His body was sent for post-mortem.
Second victim
While fleeing the scene, the attacker stabbed another person, inflicting injuries to his back and hand. Police teams responded to alerts and rushed the injured victim to a nearby hospital.
Revenge claim
During interrogation, the accused allegedly claimed that individuals in Hyderabad had killed members of his family, prompting him to attack people in Mumbai as an act of revenge. Police are verifying his statement and probing whether any other motive was involved.
Police probe
Confirming the arrest, DCP Sandip Ghuge, North Zone-II, said, “The accused has been arrested. He will be presented before the court.”
Investigators are currently tracking the accused’s movements leading up to the rampage to determine if the attacks were pre-planned or executed at random.
