The State Excise Department seized 61 bottles of Goa-manufactured foreign liquor worth Rs 71,560 from the Mangaluru Express at Thane railway station and arrested a railway attendant on September 23.
Acting on information about the alleged transportation of Goa-made liquor into Maharashtra, officials from the State Excise Department’s E Division, Thane-1, intercepted the Mangaluru Express (12134) at around 12.15 pm on Platform No. 8.
According to the department, officials noticed a suspicious man getting off the train with two bags. He was identified as Shivam Chhanbas Mathpati, who allegedly told officials that he worked as a railway attendant.
Officials searched the bags and allegedly found 61 sealed bottles of Goa-manufactured foreign liquor of different brands and capacities. The seized stock amounted to 36.85 bulk litres and was valued at approximately Rs 71,560.

The seized consignment included Royal Challenge Whisky, Old Monk Coffee Rum, Royal Green Whisky, Oakmith Sanctory Whisky, Bacardi Gava Whisky, Black and White Whisky, Royal Stag Whisky, Kent 69 Whisky and Oakmith Gold Whisky.
Officials also seized two flasks containing black-and-blue-coloured country liquor.
Case registered under Bombay Prohibition Act
A case was registered under Crime Registration No. 257/2026 on Wednesday, September 23 under relevant Sections of the Bombay Prohibition Act.
The accused, Mathpati, was produced before a court, which remanded him to one day of excise custody. The seized liquor, valued at Rs 71,560, was confiscated, according to the department.
