Four people participating in a Ganesh Visarjan 2026 procession were injured after a car allegedly being driven rashly and negligently hit them near Indra Tower on Kaka Saheb Gadgil Marg in Prabhadevi on Friday, police said.
The incident took place while the procession of sarvajanik (community) Ganesh idol was passing through the area.
According to police, the car, a sedan, was being driven by 21-year-old man when it hit four people taking part in the procession.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Pranav Agrawal.
"All four sustained minor injuries in the incident," said a police official.
Two of the injured were taken to KEM Hospital for medical treatment, while the other two were taken to a private hospital, he said.
Driver taken into custody
The Mumbai Police official said that the police took the driver into custody along with the vehicle following the incident. He was subsequently sent to Sion Hospital for a medical examination.
Police are recording detailed statements from the injured persons as part of the investigation.
FIR process underway
The process of registering an FIR was underway, police said.
Further details are expected after the statements of the injured persons are recorded, said the official.
Police said the situation at the spot remained peaceful following the incident.
Over 24,000 cops on streets of Mumbai
More than 24,000 police personnel were deployed across Mumbai on Friday to maintain law and order during Ganesh idol immersion processions on Anant Chaturdashi.
Thousands of Lord Ganesh idols were immersed across the city as devotees took part in processions marking the culmination of the Ganpati festival, which began on September 14.
Mumbai Police and civic authorities had made arrangements at natural and artificial immersion sites, while traffic restrictions were imposed on several major roads to manage the movement of processions and crowds.
A large number of police officials were deployed at major immersion points and along procession routes to manage crowds and ensure the smooth conduct of the celebrations on Friday.
