The Crime Branch in Maharashtra's Thane district has arrested a man for allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 1.12 crore after deceiving a jeweller and his customers, police said on Sunday.
The accused, Rohit Malhari Andhale, was taken into custody from Ahilyanagar district a few days ago after a case was registered at the Badlapur East police station, an official told news agency PTI.
According to the police, Andhale allegedly gained the trust of the owner of Morya Jewellers and the jeweller's customers before absconding with gold ornaments valued at Rs 1.12 crore.
His questioning led to the recovery of the entire haul of 865 grams of jewellery, the official said.
"We arrested Andhale on July 29 and began efforts to recover the stolen ornaments. Once the recovery was completed, we talked about the case," he added.

Police have arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly stealing gold jewellery worth Rs 8.84 lakh from his neighbour's house in the Diva area of Thane district, news agency PTI reported, quoting officials.
A woman lodged a complaint with the local police on August 3, stating that unidentified burglars had broken into her locked house and stolen gold ornaments valued at Rs 8.84 lakh.
Police registered a first information report (FIR) and picked up Vivesh Gorivale, a neighbour of the complainant, for questioning. He was arrested after interrogation.
According to an official, Gorivale allegedly committed the crime as he urgently needed money to purchase a commercial shop.
Police traced the stolen ornaments to a company in Mumbai where they had allegedly been pawned and recovered them.
Mumbai: Two held for posing as cops and robbing 18-year-old in Borivali
The Borivali Police in Mumbai have arrested two men within 24 hours for allegedly posing as police officers and robbing an 18-year-old of his gold chain in Gorai, Borivali West.
Police said the victim was deliberately targeted as one of the accused was acquainted with the complainant's friend and allegedly knew about his financial status.
The incident took place on August 10 near the BMC Garden gate, close to Akashvani Kendra. According to police, the complainant, Vedant Nayan Mehta, was approached by a motorcyclist who claimed to be a police officer.
The suspect allegedly struck Mehta on the ear, threatened to implicate him in a case related to intoxication and demanded money to 'settle' the matter.
When Mehta refused to pay, the accused allegedly snatched a 15-gram gold chain from his neck and fled. The chain was valued at approximately Rs 2 lakh.
Following the complaint, the Borivali Police examined CCTV footage from the Gorai area and conducted technical analysis to identify the suspects.
The investigation led police to Anmol Jadhav and his alleged associates Rohan Umesh Redkar, 22, and Virtik Ravindra Singh Chauhan, 18.
Redkar and Chauhan were subsequently detained and questioned. During interrogation, police allegedly learnt that the robbery was not random and that the complainant had been deliberately targeted.
Police said one of the arrested accused was a friend of the complainant's friend and was aware of Mehta's financial status.
According to police, the accused allegedly conspired with their associates and planned the robbery after identifying Mehta as a target. The alleged conspiracy came to light during interrogation following the arrests.
Police said the stolen gold chain, weighing approximately 15 grams and valued at around Rs 2 lakh, has been recovered from the arrested accused.
The two men have been booked at Borivali Police Station under relevant Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). They are currently in police custody.
