The Goregaon Police have made a major breakthrough in the murder of a 29-year-old man who was beaten to death after intervening in a dispute over a hotel bill. The police have identified both suspects and arrested one individual, identified as Vikas Paswan, while his alleged accomplice remains absconding.
The incident took place at around 11:45 pm on August 11 at Salman Hotel on Vasari Hill Road, Goregaon West. The deceased, Mohammad Aziz Khan, a driver and cement-gravel supplier who lived in Prem Nagar, had visited the hotel for dinner with his co-worker, Rajesh Patel.
How the incident folded
According to the police, a heated argument erupted when two patrons refused to pay the full food bill of Rs 260, offering only Rs 200 to hotel operator Danish Khan. When Aziz Khan stepped in to resolve the argument, the two men turned on him and Patel, assaulting them with their hands and wooden planks broken from fruit crates.
Khan sustained severe injuries to his head during the assault. He collapsed on the street and was rushed to Trauma Care Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
After the assault, the two suspects allegedly fled towards Tiranga Building. The Goregaon Police subsequently registered a case under Sections 103(1) (murder), 115(2), 351(3), 352, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a complaint filed by the victim's brother, Mohammad Habib Khan.
Senior police officers, forensic teams, and investigators visited the crime scene and collected evidence. Wooden fragments, a liquor bottle, and other material believed to be linked to the incident were seized from the spot.
Investigators analysed local CCTV footage and questioned eyewitnesses to establish the identities of the attackers. The investigation led police to Paswan, who was subsequently arrested.
Police are now conducting operations to trace and apprehend Paswan's alleged accomplice, who remains at large. Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault is underway.
