A dispute over playing loud music on a mobile phone inside a house allegedly escalated into a double murder in Vikhroli (West) in the early hours of Thursday, leaving a 40-year-old man and his 14-year-old son dead, while two other family members were injured.
The incident occurred in Rahul Nagar, Vikhroli (West), under the jurisdiction of the Parksite police station.
Two killed, two injured in family dispute
According to the police, Sunil Vishwakarma (40) and his 14-year-old son, Shlok Vishwakarma, sustained grievous stab injuries and were declared dead during treatment at Rajawadi Hospital. Sunil's wife, Anju Vishwakarma, and younger son, Vivaan Vishwakarma, also suffered knife injuries and are currently undergoing treatment.
Argument over loud music turned violent
Preliminary investigations revealed that the assault stemmed from a quarrel between family members after an objection was raised over loud music being played on a mobile phone late at night. During the altercation, multiple family members were allegedly assaulted with fists, kicks and a knife.
"The two accused and the deceased are brothers. They lived in the same house. The quarrel was over playing loud music on a mobile phone at night inside the house. The family members had been having frequent minor disputes over the past year," said Abhaysingh Deshmukh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), East Zone III.
Two brothers detained; probe underway
The accused, identified as Surendra Vishwakarma and Suraj Vishwakarma, have been detained by the Parksite police, and further legal action is underway.
Police said the crime scene has been secured and a forensic examination is in progress. Investigators are working to establish the complete sequence of events and ascertain the exact motive behind the attack. Further investigation is underway.
