Mumbai Police Crime Branch Units 6 and 8, along with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) medical officers, cracked down on five alleged bogus doctors operating in parts of the city, arresting five accused persons. Four clinics were located in the Zakir Hussain Nagar-Deonar area, while another was in Naupada-Bandra East.
Police said the “so-called doctors” were found examining patients and providing treatment despite lacking the required medical qualifications and licences. They were also not registered with the Maharashtra Medical Council, said police.
The boards said ‘doctor’

According to the police, the clinics appeared to be functioning like regular medical centres. At Govandi’s Ayesha Clinic, the board identifies Dr Mahmood Alam as BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery) and lists additional qualifications along with a registration number. Another one in Govandi, the board outside Gayatri Clinic identifies Dr AK Dubey as a BHMS family physician and displays separate morning and evening consultation times.
Bandra East clinic
The most serious allegations have emerged from the Bandra East clinic operated by Mohammed Aftab Shaukat Khan, 56. Police said the clinic was raided at around 9.30pm, when four patients were found waiting for treatment. During the verification, Khan admitted that he had studied only up to Std XII and did not possess a medical qualification. Police said he produced medical certificates purportedly issued by the Maharashtra Council of Indian Medicine and the All India Ayurveda Vidyapeeth, which they suspect are forged.
