Two brothers have been arrested by the police for allegedly abducting and decapitating a 23-year-old man, severing his limbs, and recording the entire horrific ordeal on a mobile phone, police said, reported the PTI.
The breakthrough in the gruesome case was achieved by the local Crime Branch, following a complex investigation into a missing person report that escalated into a murder inquiry.
According to Thane police officials, the victim, identified as Aman Mustakeen Shaikh, a resident of Mumbra, was abducted on March 13 by two siblings.
The suspects, Faiz Sultan Malim (24) and Alban Sultan Malim (23), both work as auto-rickshaw drivers and reside in the Shil Daighar area, according to the PTI.
"The accused slit Shaikh's throat with a sharp knife," a police official stated. "In a calculated bid to conceal his identity, they then severed his head and both hands before dumping the dismembered body parts at a secluded spot in Khardigaon. The accused also filmed the entire act on a mobile phone," the news agency reported.
Crime branch nabs suspects
A case was initially registered at the Mumbra police station under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder, kidnapping, and the destruction of evidence, according to the PTI.
The breakthrough that led to the arrest of the two siblings was pulled off by the Crime Branch Unit IV based in Ulhasnagar.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amarsingh Jadhav stated that the arrests and noted that the victim, Shaikh, had previous motorcycle theft cases registered against his name, as per the PTI.
Motive and criminal background
The investigators stated that the brutal murder case was suspected to be the fallout of a long-standing personal enmity between the accused and the deceased.
Senior Inspector Rajesh Gajjal of Crime Branch Unit IV stated that the elder brother, Faiz, is a habitual offender. He had previously been arrested in connection with a separate murder case in 2024 and was out on bail when this latest crime was committed.
Both brothers remain in police custody as further investigations continue, the official said, the news agency reported.
