Thane woman booked for honey-trapping ex-Army officer, extorting Rs 20 lakh

Police have registered a case against a woman from Thane for allegedly honey-trapping a 53-year-old retired Army major and extorting Rs 20 lakh by threatening to implicate him in false criminal cases, officials said on Thursday.

The complainant, a doctor currently residing in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, alleged that he was blackmailed by the accused over a period of nearly two years, between April 2024 and May 2026. The case has been registered at Kapurbawdi Police Station based on his complaint.

Police say accused used photos and recordings to threaten victim

According to the police, the woman, a resident of Balkum Pada in Thane, allegedly collected selected photographs, videos and phone recordings of the complainant and used them to threaten him.

An official from Kapurbawdi Police Station said the accused allegedly warned the retired Army officer that she would implicate him in a false criminal case if he failed to meet her financial demands.

Investigators alleged that the woman used the material as part of a planned scheme to intimidate and pressure the complainant into paying money.

Complainant alleges Rs 20 lakh was extorted

Police said the woman had also filed a case against the complainant, accusing him of rape and making a false promise of marriage. The case led to his arrest and subsequent judicial custody.

According to the complaint, while the retired Army officer was in judicial custody, the accused allegedly extorted Rs 20 lakh from one of his relatives.

The complainant further alleged that after receiving the money, the woman demanded an additional Rs 15 lakh.

Police allege conspiracy to extort money

During the preliminary investigation, police said the accused allegedly sought legal advice from lawyers in Bhilwara and Thane as part of a conspiracy to extort money from the complainant. Investigators are examining the sequence of events and the evidence submitted by both parties.

The allegations made by the complainant are currently under investigation, and the police have not disclosed further details regarding the evidence collected so far.

Case registered under multiple BNS sections

Based on the complaint, Kapurbawdi Police have registered a case against the woman under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 318(4) (cheating), Section 308(2) (extortion), Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and Section 248(b) (false charge of an offence made with intent to injure).
