Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Vinayak Raut booked after daughter-in-law alleges abuse

Former Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Vinayak Raut, his son Jitesh (also known as Gitesh) Raut, and five other family members have been booked after his daughter-in-law accused them of physical, mental and financial abuse, as well as subjecting her to alleged occult practices, reported the PTI.

According to police, the First Information Report (FIR) was registered on June 10 at Kapurbawdi Police Station in Thane following a complaint lodged by Girija Raut, 38, who is currently separated from Jitesh Raut.

Police said the case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, the news agency reported.

In her complaint, Girija Raut alleged that her marriage to Jitesh Raut was arranged in December 2017 despite the family allegedly being aware that he was unable to maintain a physical relationship, as per the PTI.

She further claimed that during trips to Australia, New Zealand, Kenya and Thailand, she was repeatedly abused and assaulted whenever she questioned the situation.

According to the complaint, she was told that an "external obstacle" was preventing the relationship.

Girija Raut also alleged that two self-proclaimed godmen carried out inappropriate rituals under the pretext of removing the supposed obstacle.

Health-related allegations

The complainant further claimed that her mother-in-law forced her to take medication to suppress her menstrual cycle, which she says affected her health, according to the PTI.

She also alleged that she was denied proper medical treatment by specialists and was instead advised to consider home insemination.

Vinayak Raut rejects claims

Former MP Vinayak Raut denied all the allegations, stating that divorce proceedings between his son and daughter-in-law are already under way, the PTI reported.

He claimed that during settlement discussions, Girija Raut demanded a three-bedroom flat with a terrace, an automatic car, monthly maintenance of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 crore as a settlement, which the family declined.

Raut further alleged that a subsequent legal notice increased the demands to Rs 5 lakh in monthly maintenance, Rs 10 crore as a settlement and Rs 2 crore for emotional distress, according to the PTI.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader also dismissed the allegations of black magic, describing them as false and intended to pressure his family during the ongoing matrimonial dispute.

Police said further investigation into the case is continuing.
