Bags containing halquinol, a chemical valued at Rs 14 lakh, were allegedly stolen from a chemical manufacturing company in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Monday.
The theft took place at the company's premises in Ambernath, and police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) while launching an investigation.
Theft reported from Ambernath unit
According to police, the theft occurred between July 10 and July 11 at the chemical company's premises in Ambernath.
Unidentified persons allegedly stole bags containing halquinol, a synthetic organic compound widely used for its antimicrobial properties.
Following a complaint lodged on Saturday, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 305 (theft) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Officials said efforts are underway to identify the accused and recover the stolen material.
Police begin investigation
Police have launched an investigation into the theft and are examining available evidence, including CCTV footage and other leads, to trace those involved. No arrests have been made so far.
Thane man duped of Rs 11 lakh in fake government job scam
In a separate incident, police have registered a case against two persons for allegedly cheating a 60-year-old Regional Transport Office (RTO) agent from Thane district of Rs 11 lakh on the promise of securing a government job for his son.
According to police, the accused approached the victim, a resident of Ulhasnagar, last year and claimed they could arrange a job in the Income Tax Department in exchange for Rs 11 lakh.
Accused allegedly showed forged selection list
Police said after receiving the money, the accused failed to secure the promised job and later told the victim they would instead arrange employment for his son in the Directorate of Health Services in Nashik.
To convince the victim, the accused allegedly produced a fabricated selection list purportedly issued by the health department.
When the promised employment did not materialise, the victim repeatedly sought updates, but the accused allegedly gave evasive responses and neither secured the job nor returned the money.
Case registered under cheating and forgery charges
Based on the victim's complaint, police registered a case on July 16 under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 318(4) (cheating), Section 336(3) (forgery), Section 335 (making a false document), Sections 340(1) and 340(2) (using forged documents as genuine), and Section 3(5) (common intention).
