The Samta Nagar police have arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly murdering his 17-year-old girlfriend in a brutal attack inside a forested area near the Lohagad locality on the outskirts of Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Kandivli East.
The accused, Suraj Waghmare, is a resident of Lohagad, while the victim was a Std XI student residing at Hanuman Nagar in Kandivli East.
Body in forest
According to police, locals found the girl’s body in the forest on Friday morning and alerted the authorities. Preliminary investigation revealed that her throat had been slit. She had also sustained multiple injuries on her body, with particularly severe wounds in her chest, indicating an exceptionally violent assault.
Police probe
A team from Samta Nagar police conducted a panchnama, and sent the body to Shatabdi Hospital. During the investigation, police detained Waghmare, who later confessed to the crime.
According to the police
Waghmare and the victim were in a relationship. But he suspected that she was speaking to another person, leading to frequent fights.
Planned murder
Police said Waghmare lured the girl to the hilly forest area on the pretext of enjoying the monsoon scenery. He carried biryani and took her to a secluded location, where he attacked her. The victim suffered multiple injuries.
Weapon recovery
The police have registered a case of murder and are trying to locate the murder weapon.
