Mumbai Police have busted an alleged prostitution racket operating from a luxury hotel in the Girgaon area of south Mumbai, rescuing two actresses and arresting a make-up artist accused of running the operation, officials said.
The action was carried out by the anti-human trafficking cell earlier this week after police received information about alleged illegal activities taking place at the hotel.
According to officials, a decoy customer was sent to verify the information before the police team conducted the raid and took action.
Two actresses rescued during operation
During the raid, police rescued two women from the hotel premises. Officials said one of them is an actress associated with the Marathi film industry, while the other has worked in Hindi and Bengali films, including cameo and supporting roles.
The rescued women were taken for further procedures as per legal requirements, while investigators started gathering details about how the alleged network was being operated.
Police said they are examining whether more people were involved in the racket and if similar activities were being carried out at other locations.
Make-up artist accused of running racket arrested
A make-up artist, who allegedly acted as an agent and facilitated the operation, was arrested during the raid.
According to investigators, the accused had professional connections in the entertainment industry and allegedly used these contacts while operating the racket.
Police said the accused was caught during the operation, and further questioning is underway to understand the extent of his involvement and identify other possible associates.
Police examine financial links and hotel’s role
Investigators are now looking into the financial transactions linked to the alleged racket and are trying to trace others connected to the operation.
The role of the hotel management is also being examined to determine whether any staff members were aware of the activities or provided assistance.
Officials said statements of relevant individuals are being recorded as part of the investigation.
Further investigation underway
A case has been registered in connection with the incident, and police are continuing their probe into the network.
Officials said efforts are being made to identify all individuals involved and determine the scale of the alleged operation.
