The Kasturba Marg Police have arrested a Bangladeshi man, who was deported from India along with his family last year but secretly returned to Mumbai through the Nepal-Guwahati route with the help of human traffickers.
Police arrested Vilayat Bilal Shaikh, 46, from Borivli on July 16, nearly three months after his wife and other family members were caught again in Mumbai.
The crackdown is part of the drive launched by North Region Zone III Police to identify and deport Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in Mumbai and its suburbs.
Deported in 2025
In April 2026, Kasturba Marg Police arrested Vilayat’s wife Nargis Vilayat Shaikh, who re-entered India after she had already been deported to Bangladesh in May 2025.
Following her arrest again, Nargis confessed that after reaching Bangladesh, her family contacted an agent who arranged their illegal re-entry into India through the Nepal-Guwahati corridor by paying Rs 10,000 per person to the agent
After her confession, police launched a search for her husband Vilayat and their son Yahiya. Yahiya is still on the run, even though Vilayat has been apprehended.
Another Bangladeshi held
In a separate case the police have arrested an illegal immigrant, Sajjad Rahim Shaikh, 23. He entered India around 20 years ago. Sajjad works as an AC repair technician and has been living with his mother, Jasmin, in a rented house in Nalasopara. According to the police, Jasmin was arrested by the DB Marg Police in 2011 in an illegal immigration case.
The case is still pending trial. Since Sajjad’s arrest, Jasmin has disappeared, and police are searching for her. Sajjad’s elder brother, Razzak Rahim Shaikh, 30, was arrested by Deonar Police on August 7, 2025, and was subsequently deported to Bangladesh.
