After winning hearts as the local doctor in Gram Chikitsalay, Amol Parashar is eager for audiences to see him in a completely different avatar in his next series, The Bureaucrat. The actor says the title of the Amazon MX Player show is still tentative. “I heard they might go with a Hindi title. I have tried the name out with my friends, and none of them could remember it. Someone is calling it Diplomat; my own mother is asking me, ‘When is that Aristocrat series coming?’ It was originally called The Fake Bureaucrat,” he says.

Directed by Sandeep Jain, the series follows a UPSC aspirant who turns conman by impersonating an IAS officer. After playing the affable Dr Prabhat in Gram Chikitsalay, Parashar believes the morally grey role marks an “an interesting turn for my career”. “I play the guy who becomes the system. It becomes interesting when he starts beating the system at its own game. It chronicles a lot of cases of fake IAS and IPS officers conducting raids. There are a lot of such cases happening all over India. He becomes an unwilling conman. It has a bit of the Catch Me If You Can vibe, when he starts scamming the system,” explains the actor.
Parashar’s advice
“Acting is like a Test match, not T20. You have to stay on the pitch to bat. Perseverance is the key”
