The Malvani Police in Mumbai have arrested two individuals who allegedly posed as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers to extort money through intimidation and assault. The accused reportedly stopped a gas delivery vehicle, assaulted its staff, and robbed them of Rs 71,000 before fleeing the scene, the police said.
According to the police, the incident took place on July 5 around 6 pm near Kharodi Bus Stop on Malad Marve Road in Malvani, Mumbai. The complainant, identified as 35-year-old Kanhaiyalal Sharma, and his colleague Mohidul Ali, were on duty, delivering gas cylinders in a pick-up tempo, when a white car intercepted them.
One of the individuals from the car falsely identified himself as a CBI officer and accused the duo of overloading the vehicle. He then abused the complainant and assaulted the complainant. Both the accused then forcibly put Sharma into their car and drove him to Marve Beach. There, with the help of an accomplice, they again assaulted Sharma and his colleague and robbed cash worth Rs 71,000 from them. The accused then dropped the two staffers off at Link Road, Kachpada in Malad, and fled.
Based on Sharma`s complaint, the police registered a first information report (FIR) under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anand Bhoite of Zone 11 and Senior Inspector Shailendra Nagarkar, Assistant Inspector Harish Shilamkar and the Crime Detection Team of Malvani Police Station arrested Pravin Kumar Satish Singh and Abhishek Chhotelal Vishwakarma, both aged 34.

Singh works in a gas agency and is a Dharavi resident, while Vishwakarma is a private employed, residing in Goregaon (West).
Further probe is underway to uncover other suspects in the racket or if the accused have committed similar offences in the past.
