Bhayander police on Thursday booked a man and his wife for assaulting, abusing and evicting his 70-year-old mother and sister out of the house.
According to the police, the complainant Chandrikaben Himmatlal Mehta owns a flat at Shanti Park, Geeta Nagar in Bhayander West, where she stayed with her daughter Chetna, 45, son Dharmesh, 48, and daughter-in-law Tanuja, 35, along with her two grandchildren.
Dharmesh asked her to give the flat’s papers, but when she refused to give the same, he and his wife brutally assaulted her and banged her head on the wall. When Chetna intervened, she was abused and assaulted by the duo. Later, they threw them out of the flat and were not allowed to take any items, including clothes, said a police officer.
They are currently staying at her daughters’ friend’s house. According to police sources, the flat that the accused son occupied was owned by Mehta and her husband. Dharmesh lived in the same house with his wife after marriage. However, due to the frequent arguments, both lived independently in another house.
Last year, after Mehta’s husband died, the accused started visiting the house and demanded to give him possession of the house.
Mehta then decided to sell the flat and give some amount to her son Dharmesh. However, he did not agree and started to stay at Mehta’s house with his wife and kids.
On February 26, after the assault, the victim submitted a written complaint at the Bhayandar police station. After verifying the facts, the police on Thursday registered the case against Dharmesh and Tanuja, said another officer.
“We have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, and are probing further,” the officer added.
