Have you heard? Aamir Khan fulfils his promise to fans

Amid speculations that Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha will be among the several films that will revisit their release date, the actor’s production house cleared the air. “Laal Singh Chaddha’s release date stands as Baisakhi, 14th April 2022, contrary to some misleading stories,” read a statement from the production house. “We once again would like to thank everyone who has supported us in the journey of making this film.” Advait Chandan’s directorial venture has been adapted by Atul Kulkarni, and features Kareena Kapoor Khan alongside Aamir. The film will clash with the release of KFG 2, backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.

Rhea misses Sushant

On late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s 36th birth anniversary yesterday, his former girlfriend, actor Rhea Chakraborty shared a throwback video of him. Taking to Instagram, she shared a video which sees the duo enjoying themselves at the gym. “Miss you so much,” she captioned it. In 2020, she made headlines after being accused by Sushant Singh Rajput’s family of abetment to suicide and siphoning off funds from the late actor. She was also named in a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) charge sheet along with her brother in a drug-related probe into the actor’s death.

RRR gets release date

After previously deferring the film from its January release, SS Rajamouli revealed that RRR will hit screens on March 18, or April 28. While it will release in March only if theatres are allowed full occupancy, it will hit screens a month later if “the pandemic situation does not improve”. The movie stars Telugu stars Ram Charan and Jr NTR, with Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt in crucial roles.

The game-changer

Eleven years since he featured in Kiran Rao’s directorial venture, Prateik Babbar referred to Dhobi Ghat as a game-changer for him. “Not only [did it] mint the fame that it did, but it also taught me a lot, as an actor. There was a lot that I could explore with my character, and it allowed me to learn more nuances of acting. It feels surreal,” says the actor, who played the part of a rat-killer  who harboured the dream of becoming an actor.

Never a boring day

In what may best be seen as testimony of the power of social media, Shehnaaz Gill and Yashraj Mukhate joined hands for a new video. Gill’s innocent one-liner on the reality show Bigg Boss caught the attention of composer Mukhate, who rose to fame by creating musical memes on it. Life appears to have come a full circle as the duo release Boring day, a spin on a few more one-liners from Gill’s notable stint on the reality show.

Did Dippy copy Kourtney?

Netizens were quick to point out that Deepika Padukone’s selection for the trailer launch of her film was reminiscent of the one sported by American media personality Kourtney Kardashian at a bash. Kardashian, 42, had slipped into the red ensemble for a Halloween party last year.  Who do you think wore it better?

Nope, thank you

The rumours were true. The Hindi version of Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde’s Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, which was a hit down South, will no longer release in the language. While the film was supposed to release on January 26, the makers have now decided to train the spotlight on Shehzada, its official Hindi adaptation. Starring Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon, Shehzada, like the original film, has been produced by Arjun’s father Allu Arvind. It is suggested that the decision to cancel the original’s release was taken at Arvind’s behest.

Onir’s film rejected

Filmmaker Onir’s script — a film on the real-life story of a homosexual Major — has been rejected by the defence ministry. The sequel to his National Award-winning film, I Am, was to be shot in Kolkata, and was based on the Major who had to quit the Indian Army because of his sexual orientation. The communications wing of the Indian Army had apparently sent an e-mail to the filmmaker revealing the decision.

When Shakun laughed at Ananya’s act

In an interview with an entertainment website, Ananya Panday recently revealed that Gehraiyaan director Shakun Batra once laughed at her portrayal of a grief-stricken lover. The actor narrated that while she felt she had pulled off an emotional scene with finesse, Batra burst out laughing following her act. She wondered whether she had underperformed, but was told that the director, in fact, is easily humoured by dramatic scenes.
