Spectators to pay more to watch India-NZ Wankhede Test

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Wednesday decided to hike all ticket rates by 25 per cent for the December 3-7 second Test between India and New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium. The decision was taken during an emergent Apex Council meeting.

Citing an example of one enclosure—the Sunil Gavaskar Stand—on the east side of the stadium, an official said that spectators would have to shell out Rs 125 for a daily ticket and Rs 375 for all five days as against Rs 100 (daily) and Rs 300 (full Test) in the last Test at Wankhede—India v England—in 2016. The MCA will await the state government’s guidelines where the amount of spectators to be allowed is concerned.

“If the government allows only 50 per cent crowd for the Test, then it is only logical to reduce the quota of tickets for clubs and gymkhanas proportionately. “If we reduce the fans’ quota and keep the quota of tickets for clubs and gymkhanas as it is, it will be unfair on the public,” said an MCA source.
