Fresh Covid-19 infections in Mumbai, TPR rise marginally

Mumbai saw a marginal rise in both the fresh Covid-19 cases and test positivity rate (TPR) on Sunday, but the number of fatalities due to the viral infection dipped. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, the city reported 294 new cases and one death.

It was on July 26, when the cases dipped below 300 and barring a few days, the same trend has continued. 

Mumbai recorded a slight rise in the TPR at 0.90 per cent. The city’s TPR had dipped below 1 per cent for the first time in the second wave on July 29.

The city reported the highest number of cases — 11,163 — on April 4 and then the decline started. There has been a steady fall in the TPR after May 5 when it was 10.96 per cent. The doubling rate has improved and was 2,030 days on Sunday.

The one death reported in the city was of a patient in the 40-60 years group. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, and a total of 240 people were discharged after full recovery. 

The state’s Covid-19 cases saw a marginal dip at 4,141 on Sunday. However, the Covid-19 fatalities in Maharashtra were constant at 145. The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.1 per cent and 4,780 patients were discharged after full recovery. The state has 53,182 active cases. 

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a marginal dip in cases and the figure remained below 500 on Sunday. 

As per the state report, 389 cases were reported in the MMR, including the ones from Mumbai. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered five Covid-19 fatalities. 

Apart from Mumbai, Panvel and Navi Mumbai reported two deaths each and Vasai-Virar reported one.
